Blue Lake's Lazaro Vega featured at EGR Arts For Life Fundraiser

East Grand Rapids - EGRPS Stage and Music Boosters announced Lazaro Vega as the 2015 recipient of The Sheila Pantlind Award.  This award, given annually, honors a community member’s outstanding contribution to the arts.

Lazaro will receive the Sheila Pantlind Award during EGRPS Arts For Life fundraising event.  This year’s benefit concert, ALL THAT JAZZ, features music by the Grand Rapids Jazz Orchestra and Big Band Nouveau.  The EGR High School Jazz Band, Swing Dance Club and Madrigal Singers also perform.

Lazaro is well known to the West Michigan Arts community.  As Jazz Director at Blue Lake Public Radio and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, MI, he's programmed and hosted 30 hours of jazz radio every week since 1983. He has volunteered as a board member and music committee co-chairman at The Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts.  He is notable in bringing concerts to the Grand Rapids community by well-known artists from across the country.

Lazaro states, “Receiving the Sheila Pantlind award is a full circle honor.  As my government and creative writing teacher at East Grand Rapids High School, and someone who found a way for me to attend National Close-Up in Washington D.C., Sheila Pantlind advocated a higher level of experience. The education given throughout the East Grand Rapids K-12 school journey laid a solid foundation for this professional life in the arts and mass media I’ve enjoyed for more than 30 years. Thank you for recognizing my on-going contribution to the fine arts community of West Michigan.”

The event will be held Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 7:30 pm, at the EGR High School Performing Arts Center, 2211 Lake Drive SE, EGR, MI 49506.  Tickets may be purchased online at egrmusicboosters.com  or the box office.  $30 preferred seating, $20 reserved, $10 students.

EGRPS Music Boosters is a non-profit organization comprised of parent volunteers who believe music education is an integral part of public education, providing intangible benefits that enrich the lives of all East Grand Rapids students.

CONGRATULATIONS, LAZARO! A WELL DESERVED HONOR!
